The professional conduct of a member of the Singapore Actuarial Society (‘SAS’) is of utmost importance. Being a professional body, the SAS has an obligation in the public interest to provide the best possible service and advice. In order to achieve this, it is essential that the highest standards of conduct are maintained by all SAS members when they give advice of a professional nature. To attain the SAS membership, it is conditional on the successful completion of rigorous education requirements. By doing so, it provides an assurance to the public that the SAS members are highly qualified to perform their duties at a high level of knowledge and competence.
The Practicing Certificate Seminar (‘PCS’) is one such education requirement. Started back in May 2015, the objective of the PCS is to ensure holders of the Practising Certificate are eligible for the signing roles from the SAS’ perspective. Each Practising Certificate is valid for 3 years. The 2021 PCS had a huge focus on relevant and current topics on professionalism. Our Managing Director Ms Ang highlighted important legal matters that actuaries should and must take note of as they give advice to others.
